Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour in 4 Days

Overview:

The 4 Day Desert Tour from Fes to Marrakech through Merzouga’s Erg Chebbi dunes is highly recommended. The itinerary includes two nights in the Sahara desert, a camel trek, and other short drives. The journey allows you to visit the best of Morocco in only four days: See the barbary Macac monkeys in Azrou’s cedar forest, take a sightseeing desert tour to see the Saharan nomads, visit the Risani donkey market, wander with a local guide in palmary or hike in Dades valley or Todra gorges, spend more time exploring sites and less time driving, share a cup of tea with a Berber family…

Itinerary for a 4 day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech:

Day 1: Fes – Midelt – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi

We begin our four-day excursion from Fez to Marrakech over the Sahara desert at 8:00 a.m. We go to Midelt via the Middle Atlas Mountains and cedar woodlands. We proceed through Ifrane, popularly known as “Little Switzerland” because of its European architecture, weather, and cleanliness. Then to Azrou, a significant handicraft center specializing in cedar wood work. We arrive at Midelt, the apple capital, for lunch. We’ll travel to Erfoud and into the desert in the afternoon. Dinner and sleep at a hotel near the Erg Chebbi sahara dunes.

Day 2: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi Dunes Tour ( Erg chebbi desert)

After breakfast, we go to Khamlia hamlet to listen to live Gnawa music, then take an off-road road trip of the sand dunes and stop for tea with nomads in berber tents, where you will learn a different way of life and have a berber pizza for lunch. Back to the hotel to unwind before beginning your camel ride into the dunes to view the sunset, then after arriving at the camp, enjoy a mint tea and the gorgeous Sahara sunset before being escorted to your lovely tents with ensuite bathroom and shower while supper is being made. After supper, you may enjoy a musical performance by the staff around a fire while contemplating the Sahara’s magnificent night.

Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Ouarzazate on Day 3

Get up early to enjoy the stunning dawn, which features the color of the dunes and the dance of shadows. Arriving to the hotel/riad for breakfast and to take a shower. We will proceed to Ouarzazate through Rissani, stopping at Erfoud, which is famed for its petrified marbles, and where you will be able to see the marble fossil workshop. Continue on to the Todra Gorges, which are perfect for exploring on your own. After lunch, take a drive through Roses, Kelaa Mgouna. We continue down the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, passing past the Skoura palm forest, until we arrive at Ouarzazate, Morocco’s “Hollywood,” and check into our hotel/riad.

Day 4 : Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

We go to At Benhaddou, a “fortified city” located on the historic trade route between the Sahara and Marrakech. It is located on a hill beside the Ouarzazate River and has several lovely kasbahs, some of which are still inhabited. The monument, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has used as the backdrop for several films, including Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator. We proceed to Marrakech across the high Atlas mountains after pausing for lunch.
